In my dream
you seem
as if a parent
or discerning knight
to banish and make vanish
all the demon breath
and dragon fears
and mares that run the night.

And I am calm now
by devotion that distils
my urine from my blood
and in my sleep
my sheets pulled up
and overall my head
and in this shroud,
I am released.

Now unquartered by the heat
that overruns me
and whose fast dance
and soft arms like vines whose fruit
will wrap me drunk
and capture me in chaos
that always comes
when roots are ended in the air.

In my dream

I seem

as if a bird

laid out upon a garden stone

by some lost child

and overblown by autumn leaves

and what still streams beyond

is space and wind.
